10 Key Points on SAP S/4 HANA
With the announcement of SAP S/4HANA on the 3rd of
February 2015 new questions about its impact on the future popped up among the
SAP community.
John Appleby came up with a simple FAQ overview.
Here are 10 key points from his blog about SAP S/4HANA.
SAP S/4HANA is a replacement to the SAP R/3 or
Business Suite platforms.
SAP S/4HANA is a new product that has to be
purchased separately by customers unless they are on SAP Business Suite
for SAP HANA.
SAP S/4HANA will only run on a SAP HANA platform,
including SAP HANA database.
SAP S/4HANA will continue to support existing
systems in the long term by providing security and regulatory fixes.
However the innovation will be focused on HANA.
SAP S/4HANA will use SAP Fiori as the User
Interface across all the on-premise and cloud applications including Concure,
Fieldglass, Successfactors and Cloud for Customers.
SAP S/4HANA will have three modes - a Public
Cloud, Private Cloud and on-Premise.
In 2015 core finance (GL) and Logistics modules
will be available with other selected modules to follow over the next 3 to
5 years.
SAP S/4HANA will still run on an ABAP platform
while extensions for the Private Cloud will be possible via HANA Cloud
Platform.
The upgrade path to SAPS/4HANA will go through
the Business Suite on HANA with a database migration and moving to the
latest enhancement package.
SAP S/4HANA will require skill sets such as web
programming for extensions with HCP, ABAP programming and Business
Consulting skills for configuration of S/4HANA systems for customers using
the new guided procedures.
